Grasslands
Grasslands are vast lands covered by different species of grasses and occur in climates with moderate rainfall. Grasslands are characterised as having herbaceous vegetation , these natural grasslands cover at least 50% of the Earths surface and will reoccur in different climates and habitat arears, accommodating many different native species.
Grasslands offer vital habitats for more than 4000 endemic species of plants, butterflies, insects, rodents and grazing mammals.
Grasslands are victim to wild fires due to the dry long grass which is in fact this biomes strategy of disease control and aids the health and rejuvenation of the flora and prevent overpopulation. Fauna living in this area also benefit birds of prey and other predator species as the beetles, mice and other small mammals that die in the fires are easy prey.
