Positive Affects Of Human Interference
When people talk of the environment we always want to simply concentrate and review the negative factors, mankind have impacted on habitats like the destruction of coral reefs, polar icecaps melting due to global warming, sea life being killed due to pollution, habitat loss due deforestation forced by the fuel and paper industries, urbanisation due to humans increasing population etc these are all important issues we are facing but we are only just beginning to understand the world as a whole.
By truly understanding our negative impacts we can understand and identify how we are able to make positive impacts on biomes and adjust, rebalance and restore the balance of nature within them. These positive impacts include:
- Breeding programs established to support endangered species which are the species scientists have highlighted having a smaller population due to external and evolutionary factors like the pandas who's diet and habitat is dwindling have been brought into captivity where they have an unlimited amount of bamboo to live off now have a thriving captive population. However still endangered in the wild.
- Nature conservations are important as this is an untouched area of natural beauty which is protected and managed by conservationists this is an area where flora and fauna native to that area are able to thrive and are protected from anything humans can cause.
- Due to pollution sea life are being killed due to plastics for example causing issues in their respiratory tract , entanglement in rope and fish netting discarded by fishing vessels can cause larger marine creatures like the dolphin, whale and sea turtle to be drowned, and dumping at sea of other rubbish no longer useful to humans. However some success has been achieved by the creation of artificial ocean reefs. These man made structures use larger items like tyres to mimic or emphasize the reef creating more habitat areas for species in that environment creating a bigger area for them to populate. The awareness of recycling and reusing has been raised with in the public domain , Governments across the world have set dates by which carbon emissions have to be lowered, Solar and wind power energy is on the increase with all new build housing meeting new planning regulations to increase the self sufficiency of renewable energy. There are grants available for tree planting, Bee keeping, re wilding areas for nature and much more awareness from a young age about how to encourage nature within the environment.
- Having established hunting seasons allows species population to recover in the off seasons, these populations are usually managed by game keepers who are trained in managing, monitoring and ensuring species population thrives in that area. In this area gamekeepers will establish a number of animals hunters can hunt these hunting seasons are essentially restabilising the population of this ensuring species doesn't over populate an environment and the game keepers establishing a number individual to that area are ensuring they have enough breeding stock for next season. Wolves which would have been the Secondary consumer in nature, no longer exist in a lot of arears , these would have been the natural predator for example of deer herds, by preying on the the old and sick animals this would have kept a herd healthy by the natural progression of breeding the fittest and healthiest animals, this process of natural selection is replicated by the control of the gamekeeper.
- Wildfire are ecosystems natural way of regenerating environments for disease control as these flora will regenerate and bounce back but this shouldn't condemn fauna living in that area. Species surviving in habitats prone to wildfires are simply and sadly wiped out due to their habitat burning which may lead to species population decreasing to endangerment level. Our positive impact on this is that we rescue animals stranded in burning habitats and we work to control the size of those fires from burning larger habitat area and putting more flora and fauna at risk. Firefighters risk their lives daily to help protect habitat areas and contribute to species survival for example when Australia gets their summer heat with a heat wave and little rain for months habitat area dry out essentially becoming kindling which set alight in an instant killing thousands of native species like koalas but through catching these fires quickly fire fighters can rescue these species and control the spread of these fires and put them out as quickly as they start.
